A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

A flavorful dish that can get you craving for more!

    INGREDIENTS

    1/2 lb. ground ham
    3/4 lb. lean ground pork
    2/3 cup quick-cooking oats, uncooked
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1/2 cup milk
    Fruit Sauce (recipe below)
    Noodle Ring (recipe below)

    Noodle Ring:
    6 cups water
    1 teaspoon salt
    4 cups medium noodles, uncooked
    2 eggs
    2 cups milk
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    2 tablespoons butter
    1/2 cup soft breadcrumbs

    Fruit Sauce:
    6 whole cloves
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    2 tablespoons all purpose flour
    1 teaspoon dry mustard
    1-1/2 cups fruit juice
    2 tablespoons vinegar
    1/3 cup light corn syrup

    DIRECTIONS

    • Put ham, pork, oats, egg and milk in a medium bowl. Combine well and cover. Keep it refrigerated for half hour.
    • Meanwhile prepare the Fruit Sauce, starting with tying cloves in a piece of cheesecloth. Place it in a 1-qt saucepan and combine it with brown sugar, flour, mustard, fruit juice, vinegar and corn syrup. Mix well and cook over medium heat until almost thick. Discard the bag of cloves. Set aside.
    • Take the chilled meat mixture and shape into inch-sized balls. Arrange onto an 11 x 7-inch baking dish. Place it into the oven and set to bake for an hour at 325 degrees F.
    • Meanwhile prepare the Noodle Ring. Add salt in a 3-quart saucepan with rapid boiling water. Add the noodles and cook until tender but firm. Stir from time to time. Drain. Transfer noodles in a 1-1/2 greased ring mold. In a medium bowl, whisk eggs then add milk and 3/4 teaspoon of salt. Pour this onto the noodles. Coat breadcrumbs with melted butter in a skillet. Sprinkle this over the egg mixture. Place ring mold into a 325 degrees F preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes. Leave it for about 10 minutes before unmolding. Use a metal spatula to loosen the edges and invert onto a warm platter.
    • Drain the ham balls off excess fat. Top it with Fruit Sauce and bake for another 15 minutes. Fill the center of the unmolded Noodle Ring with hot ham balls and Fruit Sauce.
    • Makes 6 to 8 servings.
