A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"When you need a delicious soup but running tight on the budget, this recipe will surely be a real hit. Great with a serving of bread too."

    INGREDIENTS

    2 (8 ounce) bone-in pork chops
    1 teaspoon paprika
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1/2 teaspoon chili powder
    1 bay leaf
    3 cups chicken broth
    2 cups water
    2 tablespoons soy sauce
    1/4 cup flour
3 potatoes, cut into small chunks
    1 cup chopped broccoli
    1 carrot, diced
    1 onion, diced
    2 stalks celery, diced

    DIRECTIONS

    • In a large pot, combine pork chops, paprika, oregano, garlic powder, salt, pepper, chili powder, bay leaf, chicken broth, water and soy sauce. Cook until boiling. Adjust heat to medium-low and simmer for 60 minutes. Remove pork chops and cool.
    • Stir together 3/4 cup of the cooking liquid with flour.
    • Once the chops are cool, remove the bones and trim off fat. Shred meat into small portions. Bring this back into the pot along with the potato, broccoli, carrot, onion and celery. Cook until boiling and mix in the prepared flour mixture. Adjust heat to bring mixture in a simmer. Continue cooking for an hour.
    • Discard the bay leaves from the pot and slightly mash the potatoes. Serve.
    • Makes 8 servings
