This makes use of whole spices and sweetened condensed milk to make a chai tea impression. You may add star anise, fennel, allspice, vanilla bean or nutmeg for variety.
INGREDIENTS
3 1/2 quarts water
15 slices fresh ginger, peeled
15 green cardamom pods, split open and seeded
25 whole cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
3 whole black peppercorns
8 black tea bags
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
DIRECTIONS
Add water to crock of a slow cooker. Mix in ginger, cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon sticks and peppercorns. Set heat to High and simmer for about 8 hours.
Place tea bags in hot spiced water for 5 minutes and strain the liquids into a separate container. Mix it with sweetened condensed milk and serve immediately.
