A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

You’ll love the Parmesan-bread crumbs toppings made for this recipe and more for the creamy, cheesy sauce fillings blended with bow-tie pasta, Italian turkey sausage and vegetables.

    INGREDIENTS

    1 lb bow-tie pasta
    2 1/2 cups low-fat milk
    3 tablespoons flour
    Salt and pepper, to taste
    1 lb shredded Italian-style cheese
1 cup canned diced tomatoes, drained
    12 oz Italian turkey sausage
    1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper
1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning blend
1 cup fresh bread crumbs or panko crumbs
    2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

    DIRECTIONS

    • Prepare the oven to 350 degrees F. Coat an 8 x 11-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
    • Cook pasta as instructed in the label or cook until al dente. Drain and reserve.
    • Heat milk in a large saucepan to lukewarm temperature. Beat in flour, salt and pepper, cooking until slightly thickened and bubbly.
    • Mix in the Italian cheese and tomatoes then remove from heat.
    • Prpare the sausage, removing the casings. Cook in a heated nonstick skillet. Using a wooden spoon, break the sausages, cooking until no longer pinkish in color. Add onion, pepper and Italian seasoning, cook and stir often until meat has browned and the veggies are tender.
    • Blend pasta, sauce and sausage together. Spread mixture into the baking pan.
    • Mix bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Top it over the mixture in the baking pan. Place it into the oven to bake for 20 minutes.
    • Makes about 6 to 8 servings.
